How to Configure LAN (local area network) for static IP address.

If your computer needs to have a static IP address the process is quite simple.

Click on your start button, bottom left of your computer screen.
Click on Control panel.
If your control panel is in Category view then switch it to classic view by clicking on switch to classic view top left of the screen.

Next double click the network connections icon.
You should now see your LAN (local area network) icon as below.

Next right click the LAN (local area network) icon and click on properties at the bottom of the drop down window.

Next highlight internet protocol (TCP/IP) by clicking on it and click the properties button.

In the internet protocol (TCP/IP) properties window click the radio button next to Use the following IP address
You can now manualy input a static IP address that is compatible with your network or broadband router.

The static IP address you enter must be within the range set by your broadband router.
You will get the range of IP addresses available from your router by looking in you user manual or loging into your router control panel.

The subnet mask will automaically fill itself in.

Default Gateway this is the IP address of your broadband router. See your user manual.

You will have noticed that the Use the following DNS server radio button has automatically move down.
Put in here your routers IP address.

Now click the OK button and close all these windows.
You now know how to set a static IP address for your computer LAN local area network.
Now restart your computer.
