First of all lets put one myth to bed right now. A firewall does not stop viruses or spyware getting on to your computer.
A firewall is designed to stop people hacking in to your pc.
You do not need a firewall lets face it what the hell have you go on your pc that would impress any self respecting hacker, when he can spend his valuable time hacking into the pentagon.
In acctual fact firewalls are more trouble than they are worth.
They cause problems with broadband and internet connections.
They cause problems with LAN local area network connections.
Even some software updates require you to turn off your firewall.

How many times have you called your ISP (internet service provider) because you cannot get connected to the internet and the first thing they have told you to do is turn off your firewall..... Nuff said.

Once you have invested your hard earned cash you have to make sure your antivirus software and your anti spyware software is kept up to date.

Most antivirus software will update itself automatically but it is still a good idea to check it at least once every week to see if it is fully up to date.
At least once every month run a full scan with your antivirus and anti spyware software program.
To do this i usualy make sure the antivirus and antispyware program is fully up todate, then disconnect from the internet and run a full scan of my whole computer.
