You should be doing the following maintenance routine at least once a month to speed up your computer. By following this maintenance routine you should see an improvement in your computers speed and performance.
To speed up your computer, Perform the following tasks in this order.
If you do not have either antivirus software, anti spyware software or any registry cleaning software I strongly suggest you invest in all three of these.
At the very least you will need an antivirus software program
The cost of purchasing an antivirus software far out weights the cost not only in money terms but computer downtime and possibly data loss when you get a virus.
Because if you do not have an antivirus software you will get a virus
Lecture over lets start and speed up your computer.
Click your start button (bottom left of your screen)
Click on run
Type in msconfig and click OK
Click on the startup tab
Now go through the list of programs and uncheck any you do not want to start when your computer boots up.
Only you can be the judge of the programs you select here. You will of course leave your antivirus and anti spyware programs alone.
If in doubt about this then close down the programs one at a time. If you then realise you have closed a needed program you can go back and put the check back in.
Remember you are only stopping the programs at boot up to speed up your computer. You are not removing these programs from your computer so do not worry about getting this wrong you can always go back and re check them.
When you are happy you have unchecked all the unwanted programs click apply then OK
You will be asked to restart you computer
Click on your start button (bottom left of your screen)
Click control panel
If your control panel is in category view is it blue. Then click the
switch to classic view on the top left of the screen.
Double click internet options you will see the following screen.

Click the delete cookies button.
Click the delete files button.
Click the clear history button
Now close that screen.
Click the start button
Click My computer
Right click you hard drive icon
Select properties at the bottom of the drop down window
you should now be looking at the following screen.

click the disk clean button. on the next screen
put a tick in anything with files showing against it and click OK.
You will get a message asking if you want to do this task click yes.
If there is a lot of files to be removed this can freeze you computer so to avoid this
I usually do this part of the speed up your computer routine one tick at a time.
It takes a little longer but it stops your computer from freezing.
A word of advice if you do not have a Registry Cleaner, an Antivirus software or Anti spyware software.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST you purchase these software programs.

Next connect to the internet and make sure your
Registry Cleaning Program
is up to date.
Run the program and depending on what programme you are using follow the recommended instructions.
If it gives you the option to delete what ever it finds always do so
Next do the same for your
Antivirus software program.
update and scan following recommended instructions.
Next do the same for your
Anti Spyware Program
update and scan following recommended instructions.
If you are familiar with your antivirus and anti spyware programmes you will know the best way to deal with anything they find.
As a general rule i always delete everything the antivirus anti spyware and registry cleaning programs find.
I find this is best practice to speed up your computer. The more crap you clean out the faster your computer will run
Click your start button
Click My computer
Right click hard drive icon
Select properties at the bottom of the drop down menu
Click on the tools tab
Click on the check now button
Place a tick on both the boxes and click start
You will now be presented with the following screen. Click OK
Now restart your computer.
The reason the defrag program is run last is that you need to make sure all the rubbish has been cleaned out by the antivirus anti spyware programs etc, and the disk has been checked and repaired by the scan disk before you defrag. This is the final part of the speed up your computer routine.
